This novel follows the story of Emma, a young maid working in a grand mansion, whose life takes a dramatic turn after an encounter with her employer, Mr. Hathaway, also known as Alex. One Tuesday afternoon, while Emma is cleaning the house, Alex arrives unexpectedly and creates an intense and uncomfortable situation. Despite Emma's attempts to resist, their interaction escalates into a heated moment in the master bedroom, where they are discovered by Alex's girlfriend, Victoria.
Victoria, who is also Emma's stepsister, reacts with fury and accuses Emma of seducing Alex. In the ensuing chaos, Victoria physically attacks Emma and manipulates the situation to make herself appear as the victim. Alex, influenced by Victoria's tears and accusations, fires Emma and demands she leave the mansion. Emma, feeling helpless and overwhelmed, flees the house in tears, seeking refuge in the rain.
As Emma stands in the rain, she reflects on her life, marked by feelings of inadequacy and loneliness due to her strained relationship with her father and stepmother. Her encounter with Alex had momentarily given her a sense of belonging, but it ultimately ended in betrayal and humiliation. Desperate and without a place to go, Emma hitches a ride with a stranger, Harrison, who offers her a deal in exchange for companionship.
Emma finds herself in a luxurious castle, where she is prepared for a night with Harrison by his maid. Despite her fear and uncertainty, she feels a mix of excitement and dread as she is dressed and styled for her encounter. Harrison, a handsome and commanding figure, leads her to his bedroom, where he expects her to fulfill her part of the agreement. However, when he discovers that Emma is still a virgin, he abruptly ends the encounter, deeming her "useless" for his desires. Emma is left alone in the room, feeling exposed and confused, unsure of what the future holds for her.
