Shadows of Tomorrow

The narrative revolves around the life of Percie, a young man whose world has been dramatically altered by a tragic car accident that left his girlfriend, Emma, paralyzed. Fifteen months prior to the start of the story, Percie and Emma were attending separate parties. Percie felt out of place at the party he attended and was dealing with unreciprocated feelings from a bully named Cassie. He left early to pick up Emma, but on the way, their car was hit by another vehicle. Following the accident, Emma fell into a coma for several days and later learned she had suffered a spinal cord injury, resulting in paraplegia.

Percie blamed himself for the accident and was devastated by guilt. His relationship with Emma's parents deteriorated as they disowned him, believing he was responsible for the tragedy. Despite this, Emma forgave Percie and insisted that he continue with his plans to attend college while she went through rehabilitation. Percie moved in with his grandparents and kept his promise to visit Emma regularly, supporting her emotionally and physically during her recovery.

A year after the accident, Percie's life takes an unexpected turn when he is arrested for punching his boss, who was abusing his wife. An officer named Keith bails him out and invites him over for dinner with his family. There, Percie meets Keith's daughter, Hailey, whose appearance eerily resembles Emma's, stirring complex emotions within him. Overwhelmed by these feelings, Percie struggles with his growing interest in Hailey while still carrying the weight of what happened to Emma.

Keith and his wife, Lillian, offer Percie support and kindness, which contrasts sharply with the treatment he received from his own parents. They even consider having Percie live in the same apartment building as Hailey while they both attend Hillston College. This proposition leaves Percie conflicted, as he tries to navigate his feelings for Hailey and his commitment to Emma, all while battling the lingering guilt and trauma from the past accident. The story explores themes of redemption, love, and moving forward in the face of life-altering events.
